The majority of programs listed here are free. However I don't list the programs because they are free, I list the programs because they also work. In some cases, better than programs that you pay for.

However because they are free, it does require a little vigilance of our part. Most programs do update themselves to the latest virus signatures to keep you protected. But there is not a program out there that can protect you 100%. So please use common sense whenever you open an email attachment, go to a new web site, or got to a familiar web site that seems to have some changes.

I have used each program listed here. They all have their pros and cons. I also use the recommendation of a security publication and their baseline tests. I have listed the program over on the left in order of current effectiveness. This will change so check occasionally.

Note: If you are currently using AVG and wish to try another security program, you should uninstall AVG first (Control Panel, Add/remove Programs) If you get an error, download this program and run it. It will completely remove AVG
